Register Now: Bossier Sheriff Youth Shooting Program Extended
Normally, as you scan through the news in Louisiana, when you see the words "youth" and "shooting", your assumption is that it's a bad thing.

That's totally understandable, but in this particular case, unmerited, as this is actually another chance for our local youngsters to shine under a positive light.
Over the last several years, we have seen Bossier Parish Youth lead the nation, even the world, in their archery prowess, and the Bossier Parish Sheriff is hoping Bossier kids can establish the same reputation in shooting world.
According to wikipedia.com, scholastic shooting sports are made a huge return.
Until 1969 virtually every public high school—even in New York City—had a shooting club.
Obviously, times have made a tremendous turn for the worse since those days, but now organized scholastic shooting is one of the fastest growing youth sports in the country.
In 2015, 9,245 students in 317 schools across three states participated in the USA High School Clay Target League. In 2018, participation had increased 138% with 21,917 students from 804 teams in 20 states.
The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office is addressing the rising popularity of scholastic shooting sports by offering another youth sporting clays and trap shooting program, entitled "2025 Spring Trap and Skeet Season" for students in Bossier Parish!
This program, which is open to all Bossier Parish students, grades 7-12, and includes home-schooled students, is a fantastic opportunity to develop new skills, practice safety, and have fun in a supervised and supportive environment.
The best news is that the deadline for students to register, which was originally on February 8, has been extended to February 28, 2025 and the 2025 Spring Trap and Skeet Season will officially begin in early March.
For those students wishing to participate and might have additional questions, just email Deputy James Lonadier at jlonadier@bossiersheriff.com or Mitch Downey at mdowney@bossiersheriff.com
