Bossier City, where our way of life is built on community, confidence, & justice and the constant flight of the Stratofortress greets you with uncompromised cool factor on the daily. What would a welcome to such a place look like you might ask? A sturdy foundation to signify our strong stock of good people. Perhaps a squadron of B-52’s in perpetual flight fueled by the sun’s daily path across our fair skies. Make it three, to signify the trifecta of tenets the city is founded on. Don’t forget the namesake of BOSSIER in big bold hyper-scale font. Finished in the riveted gunship grey metal panels of our favorite aircraft and flanked by a friendly welcome to our fair city. In patriotic hues of course.

Bossier City and the Red River share a bond intertwined through time and geography. The river’s shimmering waters have supported the city’s growth, providing a lifeline for commerce and transportation. Bossier City, in turn, has embraced the river, thriving on its banks as a bustling center of entertainment and hospitality, from the glittering lights of riverboat casinos to the vibrant streets. Bossier City and the Red River form a harmonious union, their destinies entwined in the very fabric of Louisiana’s vibrant landscape. This connection is why the curved topography of the river is the main inspiration for this project.

The project draws inspiration from Bossier City’s strong connection with the Red River and Barksdale Air Force Base. The city is situated on the banks of the Red River, which not only provides scenic beauty but also serves as a vital waterway for transportation and commerce. Additionally, Bossier proudly hosts Barksdale Air Force Base, serving as headquarters for the Eighth Air Force and the 2nd Bomb Wing and housing the formidable B-52 bombers. Barksdale Air Force Base plays a pivotal role in national defense while also making significant contributions to the local economy and fostering a sense of community.

The proposed new gateway presents an opportunity to make a great first impression and tell all visitors who Bossier is:  A patriotic community and the proud home of Barksdale AFB.  Our solution contains 3 parts:

  • A 199’ tall flagpole topped with a 30’ x 50’ flag, visible for miles.
  • A pair of restored B-52 wings flanking the flagpole, symbolizing Bossier’s connection to Barksdale.  Lights in the engine housing illuminate the flag at night.

A large LED sign proclaiming: WELCOME TO BOSSIER, HOME OF BARKSDALE AIR FORCE BASE.   The sign can be programmable to advertise upcoming community events.
