UPDATE (2:45PM - 1/14/22): Bossier Parish Public Schools have corrected their previous COVID-19 guidance, and have changed the language for vaccinated students. The new language in the COVID guidelines does not make changes to the time-frame for vaccinated students, allowing vaccinated students to remain in class after close contacts, even after 6 months of their vaccination date. You can see the latest guidance here.

ORIGINAL STORY: Bossier Parish Schools have decided to go above-and-beyond the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create their own medical definitions.

As of their COVID-19 updated guidelines from last week, the Bossier Parish School Board has snuck a new definition of "Fully Vaccinated" status into their COVID rules. The school system released an update on January 3rd, 2022 (at 1:15) that included the following lines under their "Close Contact" policy:

"CAN ATTEND SCHOOL AND DON'T NEED TO QUARANTINE IF VACCINATED WITHIN 6 MONTHS/RECENT BOOSTER/WITHIN 90 DAYS OF LAST (+) POSITIVE CASE"

In simple terms, students are no longer considered Fully Vaccinated after 6 months. Which is a huge change from the CDC vaccine guidelines. According to the CDC's guidelines to define "Fully Vaccinated" status, there is no change based on time. Here is the exact language from the CDC:

"Everyone 5 years and older is recommended to receive a primary series of a COVID-19 vaccine to be considered fully vaccinated.

For children 5 years through 17 years of age, a primary series consists of 2 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. For persons 18 and older, a primary series consists of:

  • A 2-dose series of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or
  • A single-dose COVID-19 vaccine (Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine)"

So why do Bossier Schools have to make this change, and break away from the CDC? Does the school system have some scientific research that the CDC may need to see? It could be very important information that the rest of us need.

There is overwhelming evidence that the learning loss created by kids being pushed out of schools due to COVID restrictions is more dangerous that COVID is to kids. This is why people like Dr. Anthony Fauci have been fighting to keep kids inside schools.

This is an easy to understand slippery slope situation. If a kid is no longer considered "Fully Vaccinated" by Bossier Schools after 6 months, they're positioning themselves to require something that the CDC is not requiring. Without a child testing positive after a "close contact", this child could perpetually be sent home for 5 to 10 day periods over and over. Right now, Bossier Schools are giving students only a couple of choices: perpetual COVID vaccine boosters or get a positive COVID case every 90 days. Neither of these sound like good ideas, at least to this parent.
