It is only the beginning of June, and that classic, heavy Ark-La-Tex summer heat is already hitting us full force.

When temperatures skyrocket like this, extreme weather can become dangerous quickly, especially for our senior neighbors, who are too often left to cope on their own. The good news is that you have a direct way to help, because the Bossier Council on Aging has stepped up to keep our older residents safe and cool.

The Bossier Council on Aging has officially launched its 2026 Fan Drive, which runs from now through September 30th. If you or someone you know is a Bossier Parish resident aged 60 or older and has a proper ID, they can receive one fan per household to help beat the heat.

The Council has set up three different pickup sites across the parish to make this as accessible as possible:

Bossier City: 706 Bearkat Dr (Call 741-8302)

Benton: 202 Sibley (Call 965-9981)

Haughton: 201 Hazel (Call 470-3821)

Take a second to look around your neighborhood. Is there a senior living down the street who might be struggling with a broken AC unit, or someone living on a fixed income who is terrified of a high electric bill? A simple gift like a box fan can literally be a lifesaver.

If you want to bless a local senior and support this incredible cause, consider reaching out to the Bossier Council on Aging to see how you can donate new fans or contribute funds. Let's make sure our community stays safe, hydrated, and cool this summer!
