When we first read her nomination letter from her dear friend, Corre Evans, we knew she was exactly what we look for each and every week.

Bonita's heart and her commitment to the kids of Logansport and all those who've been blessed to encounter her, are the exact reasons why we're celebrating her this week as the latest recipient of the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.

I want to tell you about one of the sweetest ladies I know, Bonita Brown. She served as the paraprofessional/secretary at our school for 32 years, and I am proud to call her my friend. Bonita has faced many challenges in her life, but each one has only made her stronger. In 2011, she experienced the heartbreaking loss of her son. Even in one of the most devastating times of her life, Bonita chose to give life to others by donating his organs. That act of selflessness truly reflects who she is—a giver, through and through. Since retiring from her secretary position, Bonita has continued to pour her heart into our school and community. She has returned as a substitute teacher and filled many other roles whenever needed. She also leads our Purple Paws, our PTA, always looking for new ways to support our students. She is also very active in her church and our community. Bonita gives so much to our teachers and staff as well—it’s the little things she does that mean the most. Beyond our school, she stays active in the community and with LOPA (Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency), sharing her story and encouraging others to consider organ donation. Bonita Brown is the heart of our school—always giving, always caring, and always inspiring those around her. This is why I am nominating her for the “caught in the act” award.

Bonita Brown, because you've been 'Caught in the Act', John and the gang at the Magnolia Pit have a $50 gift certificate for you to come enjoy a great meal!

Take a listen to the phone call we made to Bonita to let her know that she was this week's Caught In The Act Award recipient.
