Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting at a city park in Minden over the weekend. Four people were wounded during the incident on Sunday.

The Webster Parish Journal reports Minden officers believe the shooting was gang-related. Police Chief Jared McIver says this has been an ongoing problem for quite some time.

McIver says several more suspects and warrants will likely be issued.

“We can give two names right now,” McIver said. “But more arrests are coming in the next few days.”

19-year-old Reginald Moore Jr.of Heflin, is charged with 4 counts of attempted second degree murder and 1 count of illegal use of weapons. 21-year-old Jamontae Holyfield of Homer is charged with 4 counts of attempted second degree murder and 4 counts of carjacking.

What Do Police Believe Happened?

McIver says Holyfield allegedly entered a car with people who were not involved in the shooting incident and demanded they drive him to another location.

“There are still a lot of people coming forward with information, tips are still coming in,” McIver said. “People are calling, and things are rapidly changing.”

Several other agencies are helping with this investigation including State Police and the U.S. Marshals office.

The chief says “There were so many shooters; we have people that have fled the state, fled the city, we have many other entities working with us,” he said. “We want to make sure we do everything the way we know will get full prosecution.”

How Are the Victims of the Sunday Shooting?

The latest reports show one of the victims is in the ICU in critical condition. Two other victims have gone home and are expected to recover. The 4th victim is a woman who was shot in the back, leg and hip. The bullet in her back has not been removed and doctors fear if the bullet moves or they try to remove it, she could be paralyzed. She has gone home, but faces a long recover and more medical procedures.

The shooting happened during a gathering at Ewell Park. Minden leaders say they will no longer issue permits for large gatherings at city parks. Minden Mayor Nick Cox says evidence found at the scene indicates two gangs opened fire on each other near the ballfield and a playground.
