About 20 people attended the meeting. 8 of them were from Allendale. Others live in other Shreveport neighborhoods but are very sympathetic to the plight of the Allendale residents. The group discussed the recent allocated of $100 million from the BP oil spill settlement money for the innercity connector. Many say they will urge lawmakers to change how that money must be spent and put it in a fund for a boulevard in the area.

In fact, members of Allendale Strong have agreed to urge the Shreveport City Council and the Caddo Parish Commission to pass resolutions calling for a business boulevard instead of the innercity connector.

Allendale Strong is proposing this solution:

"Connect I-49 smarter, faster and cheaper. This will make Shreveport beautiful and prosper. We are for smart investing:

1. Local traffic: reinvest in US 71/North Market business boulevard route to I-49 ($60 million).

2. Through traffic: Loop I-49 using exitsting 3132 and I-220 at no cost.

But opponents say there is a cost to using the loop approach because the Cross Lake Bridge is not up to federal highway standards.
