In the event you had to work Saturday, or maybe you decided to opt for an LSU or Louisiana Tech football game instead of the traditional dove hunt, you missed a great day.

The birds were plentiful this year and truly started flying even before the season officially opened at 12pm Saturday.

Hunters all over Northwest Louisiana had their own form of "tailgate parties" as they ate before the hunt began, enjoyed the cloud cover and the breezy conditions in spite of the sweltering heat.

All in all it was a great day and more importantly marked the officially opening of this year's hunting season.  Let the games begin!
