Mother’s Day weekend is not a time to drink and drive. This weekend officers arrested 12 individuals for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The first occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 12th when officers contacted Jonathan Scheidt (1-19-90) as they were dispatched to a wreck in the parking lot of a liquor store in the 3000 block of Gilbert Drive. Scheidt was contacted by officers and arrested for Operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The second occurred at 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, May 13th as officers contacted Demarcus Oguin (10-14-88). Oguin was contacted during a traffic stop for operating a vehicle with no headlights. He was arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and driving under suspension.

The third arrest came after officers contacted Charles Blake (9-16-83) at 4:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 13th. Blake was contacted during a traffic stop for speeding. As officers approached, he attempted to flee on foot. He was eventually arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, resisting, and driving under suspension.

The fourth arrest came after officers contacted Marc Owens (7-8-93) at 5:41 a.m. on Saturday, May 13th. Owens was contacted during a traffic stop for speeding and found to be impaired. He was arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The fifth arrest came after officers contacted Kevin Gonzales-Diaz (7-9-98) at 6:40 a.m. on Saturday, May 13th. Gonzales-Diaz was contacted during a traffic stop for reportedly running a red light and was found to be impaired. He was arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The sixth arrest came after officers contacted Taylor Adams (6-30-95) at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, May 13th. Adams was contacted as officers were dispatched to a wreck in the 6300 block of Hearne Avenue. As officers approached, she was reportedly intoxicated. She also had a child in the vehicle. She was arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Child Desertion, and multiple traffic violations.

The Seventh arrest came after officers contacted Earnest King (6-20-64) at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13th. King was contacted as officers were dispatched to a wreck at Curtis Lane and Woodland Way. As officers approached, he was reportedly intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and warrants from a previous DWI.

The eighth arrest came after officers contacted Wayne Rhines (9-23-62) at 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 14th. Rhines was contacted as officers were dispatched to a wreck in which Rhines reportedly struck a pedestrian in a parking lot. As officers approached, he was reportedly intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and Negligent Injury.

The ninth arrest came after officers contacted John Sweatt (9-20-69) at 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, May 14th. Sweatt was contacted during a traffic stop for reportedly running a red light and was found to be impaired. He was arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and for having an open alcoholic beverage container.

The tenth arrest came after officers contacted Nicholas Rodney (3-8-76) at 1:00 a.m. on Monday, May 15th. Rodney was contacted as officers responded to a report of a vehicle striking seven vehicles in the 600 block of Harrison. Officers arrived and took the man into custody. Rodney was arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. This investigation is ongoing.

The eleventh arrest came after officers contacted Ian Thomas (5-24-93) at 3:40 a.m. on Monday, May 15th. Thomas was contacted during a call to assist a motorist as a passerby saw a man asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle at Youree Drive and East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop. He was arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and for having an open alcoholic beverage container.

The Twelfth arrest came after officers contacted Markus Arnold (11-8-81) at 4:00 a.m. on Monday, May 15th. Arnold was contacted as officers were dispatched to a wreck at Interstate 20 and Fairfield Avenue. As officers approached, he was reportedly intoxicated. He was arrested and charged with one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

One person is killed, on average, about every 45 minutes in a drunk-driving crash, totaling more than 11,000 lives lost each year.

The Shreveport Police Department wants to encourage our community to always drink responsibly. Remember, you drink, you drive, you lose.

As these arrests are not classified as "Violent Offenders", no mugshots are provided by law enforcement.

Sadly there have been hundreds of Officers killed in Louisiana. Even more shocking, a lot of officers have perished in our region.
