It's not every day that the government is essentially begging to give you money, but that is virtually the case with Louisiana's flood survey.  State officials are having such a hard time getting people to fill out the survey that they're literally going door to door.

The Restore Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Program survey is open to all homeowners affected by the March and August 2016 floods and is the first step in applying for federal rebuilding assistance.

Funds for the program are provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). According to the FAQ section at restore.la.gov, HUD requires the program to help families who are most vulnerable with the least access to other resources for home repairs or rebuilding.

But even if you don't think you're eligible for funding, you are urged to take the survey because it provides valuable information about homeowners’ ongoing needs as the recovery continues. It enables the state to demonstrate additional needs to Congress which may result in additional funds becoming available.  If additional funds are made available you may be become eligible for assistance.

In a Louisiana Radio Network report, Pat Forbes from the Louisiana Office of Community Development said that there are close to 20,000 families who would probably be eligible for the program who have not completed the survey.  Forbes said, "If they've already finished building, they can still qualify.  If they are not low to moderate income, they can still qualify. Now even if they have flood insurance, they might still qualify.”

The survey only takes 5-10 minutes, so what have you got to lose but a few moments of your time?
