Today is the first day NFL teams can designate players for their franchise tag, which means the Saints will have until the March 3rd deadline to either work out a long term deal with Jimmy Graham or use their franchise tag for the all-pro tight end.

The Saints likely will put the "non-exclusive" franchise tag on Graham, then Graham's agent is expected to file a grievance through the NFL Players Association claiming that Graham should be franchised as a wide receiver rather than a tight end since he lined up in the slot or out wide for two thirds of his snaps last season. The difference in salary between the two positions is about 5 million dollars.
