What Was Minimum Wage When You Started Working?

It was on this date in 1996 that President Clinton approved the first minimum wage increase in 5 years, raising the hourly minimum by 90 cents to $5.15 per hour. I (Tracy) remember that well, because that meant my pay went up to $5.15 from $4.75. Do you remember what minimum wage was when you started working?

Check out this chart of minimum wage rates through history:

When Gary McCoy entered the workforce, many, many, many years ago minimum wage was a whoppin’ $2.90 an hour. That sure doesn’t seem like a whole lot of money, but think about the prices of gas and groceries back then and how much those prices have climbed through the years.

So, what was minimum wage when you entered the workforce?
