Weekend Box Office: Dark Knight Falls

Batman spent nearly a month atop the box office, but the Dark Knight has fallen. What movie hauled in the biggest bucks this weekend?

The Bourne Legacy
The fourth installment of the "Bourne Series" was the winner of the weekend, opening with over $40 million. The "Legacy" opening was higher than the $27 million "The Bourne Identity" took in opening weekend in 2002, but it's less than the $52 million and $69 million openings for "The Bourne Supremacy" and "The Bourne Ultimatum."
The Campaign
Funny-men Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis (gesundheit) opened with a strong $27 million but it's a bit lower than the $40 million openings Ferrell has seen since "Talladega Nights" and that Galifianakis has had with the "Hangover" movies.
The Dark Knight Rises
"DKR" earned about half of what it did in the previous week, but it's approaching the $400 million mark for total earnings.
Hope Springs
The $15 million dollar opening might seem like a weak total, but Merryl Streep's films have never opened particularly strong. They always tend to do well in the following weeks though, and usually end with a lofty total.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days
$8,200,000
Chalk one up for the Wimpy Kid. The third installment of this series managed to finish ahead of "Total Recall."
