Tarodgany Sumner and Calvin Horton are behind bars in connection with a string of home break ins in Shreveport. A concerned neighbor called police late Monday morning after allegedly witnessing two men attempting to break into a home in the 3000 block of Burson Drive.

A neighbor and his father were in the back yard of one of those residences when they encountered Sumner. Sumner allegedly aimed a suppressed .22 caliber pistol at them prompting the citizen to fire a shot to defend his life and the life of his father.

The shot and the citizens who were accosted led police to Sumner. A canvas of the area led to the discovery of Horton hiding out in another neighbor's yard.

During a search of the suspect's vehicle, police located a 9 mm handgun, several bags of jewelry, and a small amount of marijuana. It was later determined that the jewelry had been taken during a separate home burglary in the 300 block of Atlantic in the Broadmoor neighborhood. That burglary occurred earlier in the day.

The handgun used to intimidate neighbors during Sumner's attempted escape was stolen during a burglary on Maryland Avenue.

Sumner and Horton were each charged with one count of Aggravated Burglary and one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Sumner was also charged with Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm and two counts of Aggravated Assault.

More charges against the pair are pending.
