Jury selection is expected to begin today in the 1st degree murder trial of Grover Cannon. Cannon is accused of shooting and killing Shreveport Police Officer Thomas LaValley in August of  2015. Cannon was found hiding out in a shed a short distance from the crime scene.

According to reports, hundreds of prospective jurors and witnesses have been summoned to the Caddo Parish Courthouse. Legal experts say the trial could last 3 to 4 weeks, with the jury selection process taking the most amount of time. They say it will take effort to find jurors not influenced by media coverage or that have a problem with the death penalty.

It is also expected that Cannon's defense, who have had the trial delayed numerous times, will file for another continuation today. However, experts say the motion is unlikely to be granted by the court since potential jurors and witnesses have been subpoenaed.

The prosecution is seeking the death penalty.
