Mack Beggs a 17-year-old transgender boy finished an undefeated season on Saturday winning the state title along with criticism from those who believe that the testosterone he's been taking as he transitions from female to male created an unfair advantage. Mack wanted to wrestle with the boys but because of the state rules saying wrestlers must wrestle based on the sex they were born as he was forced to wrestle the girls.

Beggs who is a junior at Euless Trinity won 12-2 in the 110-pound weight class to improve to 56-0 and earn the championship. Beggs reached the state finals after two other matches forfeited.

ESPN reports that UIL deputy director Jamey Harrison who oversees sporting events at Texas High Schools said "Nothing that has happened at this year's wrestling championships has the UIL reconsidering its rules, because quite frankly, we don't believe that any issues being reported on are really a product of UIL rules."
