Tonya Hilburn is Recipient of Kiss Country’s Caught in the Act Award

Tonya Hilburn has got to be one of the happiest people we've ever had the privilege of talking to. You can hear her smiling from the top of her head to the tip of her toes. And she smiles all the way from her heart.

And Tonya's spirit spills over into everything she does! You can just sense the kindness, consideration and respect that she puts into everything. And as principal of Plantation Park Elementary School, the kids and parents are true beneficiaries of those qualities.

Just read the nomination letter we received about Tonya from Jackson Powers and you'll see how easy it was to name her as this week's recipient of the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.

I would like to nominate the principal of Plantation Park Elementary, Mrs. Tonya Hilburn. She is the epitome of what it means to go above and beyond for other people. She has been the principal there for 3 years, and has totally flipped the atmosphere of the school. She has created a "treat trolly" for the teachers every week to raise the moral of her teachers, and instead of calling parents for negative referrals, she calls them to praise the students and raise the moral of the students as well. Home life for most of these students is not the best, so she is constantly finding ways to make kids laugh and love learning. The motto of the school is "every student matters, every moment counts" and she has done everything in her power to bring that statement to life. She does not stop trying to find ways to get the community involved, like teaming up with a senior at Parkway high to create a drumline for the school, and creating ways to get family involved around the school. I believe that the way she has brought life, love, and happiness into the community, as well as the school, as more than qualified her to get reconized for your award.

 

Tonya Hilburn, thank you for being one of the biggest reasons why this is the greatest place in America to live!
