It's US Air Force Day! Kiss Country is full of military families and Air Force members, so let's speak up and share our gratitude! Thank you! Thank you for everything you do! And enjoy this fun song and dance video courtesy of the US Air Force.

Right here in the heart of Kiss Country lies Barksdale Air Force Base, home to the 2nd Bomb Wing, the oldest bomb wing in the Air Force. Built in the early 1930's BAFB took the place of cotton fields in Northwest Louisiana providing a major source of employment for the Shreveport/Bossier areas.

Barksdale is home to the Air Force's newest command, Air Force Global Strike Command. AFGSC was activitated August, 2009, and is responsible for the nation's three intercontinental Balistic Missile Wings, two B-52 Stratofortress Wings and the only B-2 Spirit Wing.

The "Mighty Eighth" Air Force, of World War II fame, is headquartered at the base. Barksdale is home to the 2nd Bomb Wing, 2nd Operations Group, 2nd Maintenance Group, 2nd Mission Support Group, the 2nd Medical Group, Eighth Air Force Museum (which maintains the historical aircraft and artifacts that grace the base) and the Air Force Reserve's 917th Wing. --US Air Force Fact Sheet
