I don't know why I keep showing you my embarrassing moments.  Surely nobody is interested in my one minute TV debut.  But you may interested in knowing how Willie Nelson helped to end my TV career as soon as it started.

The video is from April 2003 when I hosted the KMSS FOX 33 Sonic Cash Call.  You've seen these things before.  I announce a dollar amount and then dial someone out of the phonebook to see if they're watching and can name the dollar amount, if they do... they win it.

I was set to host the Cash Call for the entire week.  The video here is from that Monday night, my first time hosting.  It went fairly smoothly, except for the camera shot being too low and my big ole head covering the dollar amount.

The next night, on Tuesday, I opened it up by saying, "Welcome to FOX 33 Sonic Cash Call.  Sonic!  Mmmm them tots!"  I thought I was so funny.  And I wish I had that video to show you.

The third night for me to host was Wednesday and this is where Willie Nelson enters the story.  I was set to host the Cash Call at 9pm that night.  But, I found myself at the Horseshoe Riverdome for a Willie Nelson concert.  It was Willie's 70th birthday party and he was doing a five-night stand at the Riverdome.  The concert started around 7pm and by 8pm I was several beers deep.  I called the lady from FOX 33 and told her I couldn't do the Cash Call that night.  Lame on my part... I know!  But that was my choice.  I certainly enjoyed the concert and the beers... and Willie is my man!

The KMSS lady freaked out, understandably, and never asked me back!

The moral of the story is, if given the choice between television fame and a Willie Nelson concert... choose Willie!
