I don't know why I continue to embarrass myself by showing you these videos. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment.  But, if you've ever wondered about the process of applying for a reality show like the Amazing Race, then I'm about to fill you in.

Back in 2002, my best friend and I applied for the Amazing Race 4... convinced that we had what it takes to win the $1 million dollar prize.

The first step (back then) was sending in a 3 minute videotape displaying your "personality." So, you're about to see the tape my friend and I sent in.  Yes, yes... I find it completely embarrassing 12 years later.  (I read once that it's natural to look at old photos of yourself and feel embarrassed because it means you've progressed in your life.  Holy cow, I must've really progressed because I can barely watch this tape without wincing and cringing)

We were soon notified by CBS that we were selected as semi-finalists to make it on the show.  We were invited to attend an on-camera interview in Dallas, and we went.  Long story short, we clammed up at the interview and ultimately didn't get chosen for the show.

There are some folks, however, from Shreveport/Bossier who have made it on to the Amazing Race.  The Rogers family were chosen for the Amazing Race Family Edition.

Denny, Renee, Brittany and Brock made it on the show but only lasted two legs of the race before being eliminated.  You may recognize Denny from his Landers Dodge commercials.

I asked Denny on my show about his experience on the Amazing Race.

The thing that you don't see when auditioning for one of these types of shows is the mountain of paperwork and legal releases you sign.  Also, my friend and I signed a confidentiality agreement and were unable to tell any of our family members that we were in the running to make it.

Anyways, I hope you don't watch this video as I can't help but be embarrassed by it.  So, save yourself three minutes... while I go stick my head in a hole.

BTW, my friend is Johnny Cunningham.  He is also your local friendly pharmacist at the new Sam's Club in Bossier.
