Imagine being able (for a price) to have a the tattoo of a deceased loved one or friend put in a frame? Well, as bizarre - and macabre - as it may seem, an unusual new business is offering to remove inked skin and turn it into a memento.

This new twist is funereal services is the brainchild of a trio of undertakers and it's called "Save My Ink Forever." From their website:

"...we have developed a unique proprietary process for preserving tattoos.  Our mission is to help carry on a loved one's story. We hope to ensure that the spirit and legacy of your loved ones can live on for generations to come. Save My Ink Forever focuses on creating an everlasting memorial. At Save My Ink Forever we create more than just a picture. You receive the actual tattoo. This becomes a framed piece of art that is presented to the family in a dignified manner."

So, here's a more detailed explanation from company founder Kyle Sherwood, via huffingtonpost.co.uk:

"All of our tattoos have deep meaning - meaning enough to put it on ourselves for life to proudly display. So we thought, well what happens when you die? These works of art that mean so much to the individual - and the family - are gone forever. They are either buried or cremated, never to be seen again.”

According to Sherwood and his team, the skin of the deceased is "removed" then treated with chemicals and enzymes to prevent decay. The service, which is now available in both the United States and England, has successfully preserved more than 20 tattoos. The cost of the procedure varies depending on tattoo size (and body location), but usually costs in the $1,000 range.
