If I was a medical doctor I'd be thrown out my practice for passing along bad advice. I am not a doctor but I human. Just like you, I don't lead a carefree life, even though you might think that from listening to the radio.

Here is something that I have learned me and about you.Your biggest problem and my biggest problem happens between our ears. It happens so often that when it's not there we aren't sure what to do with ourselves.

I am talking about worrying. Read this definition of worrying from Dictionary.com. Oh My God! Tormenting is exactly the right word! I do it. You do it. If you're a normal American adult most of your worries fall into these categories, your health, your finances, your family, and your stuff.

We all think we're too fat, look to old, have wrinkles in places we shouldn't and can't stretch wrinkles out of places we once could. We all have bills and we all wonder if we can pay them. We want to know if we can comfortably retire too. We all are concerned about how the kids are going to turn out and what are we going to do with Mom and Dad now that they've gotten older.

We also worry about our things, our cars, our boats, our homes, our big televisions, and our wedding china that we only use once a year but it takes up half the cabinets in the house.

I bet you didn't know that you spend over 37 days a year worrying. That's based on you being awake for 16 hours a day. That's over a month of wasted energy on things that don't happen 85% of the time. That's right, 85% of what we worry about never happens yet you've already invested the emotional capital into a terrible outcome.

You know if you quite worrying even a little you're going to feel better. You're also going to feel better about yourself. I suggest you divide your worries into two categories; things I can change and things I can't change.

Stop me if you've heard this prayer before.

More simply put,  change the things you can change and learn to deal with the rest. For example, if I am worried about my weight I can change my diet and take a walk. If I am worried about my finances I can put pen to paper and create a budget that works for myself.  I can't change getting older. I can't change that I look older. But, if we don't change our mindset you and I won't have that chance to get older.

Worry is a wasted emotion that was glamorized by Hollywood to give Italian mothers more lines. Worry is not fun. It's not your friend. It destroys you from within and self-destruction is so out of style these days.
