A lot has happened in the last month.  The Las Vegas shooting, the destruction in Puerto Rico, North Korea, and the Harvey Wienstein scandal have all dominated our Facebook feeds and news programming in general - so it can be easy to understand why the general public attention my have strayed from the destruction that Hurricane Harvey wreaked on the residents of South East Texas at the end of August / beginning of September.  There is at least one group that is keeping it's focus on helping residents displaced by the historic floods - Texas prison inmates.

The Dallas Morning News is reporting that last month, Texas prison inmates requested the ability to donate their commissary funds to the Red Cross' hurricane Harvey disaster relief efforts.  The donations totaled more than $53,000!  This isn't the first time Texans behind bars have done this, either.  When hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, prisoners requested the ability to donate.  The were able to cobble together more than $40,000.
