The people and shows who we’re rooting for at the Emmys this year — and the people and shows we’re upset won’t be there with them.

At last year’s Emmys, Jimmy Kimmel sent a message to Tracy Morgan, who had been hospitalized in a coma following a traffic accident that killed one of Morgan’s friends and fellow comedians. “Shout out to Tracy Morgan, we’ll see you next year, Tracy,” Kimmel told the audience at the time. Almost one year later, Morgan made good on Kimmel’s promise and surprised the Emmys crowd as he arrived on stage to present the final award of the night for Best Drama Series to a standing ovation from the crowd.

The 2015 Emmys are upon us, hosted by Brooklyn Nine-Nine star and SNL alum Andy Samberg, and the competition is arrestingly steep. Will this be Mad Men‘s year? What about Tatiana Maslany? All eyes were on Carrie Underwood at this weekend's 2013 Emmy awards, and not just because of her ridiculously expensive wardrobe choices. The country singer paid tribute to musical icon The Beatles with a stirring cover of "Yesterday," a song she revealed she had Paul McCartney's permission to perform.

It's always hard to outshine Carrie Underwood, but it was nearly impossible when she walked the red carpet that the 2013 Emmy Awards on Sunday night (Sept. 22).
