Despite a rocky 2012, Rodney Atkins will focus his efforts and use his talent to help raise money for cancer research at a Kentucky Derby Eve dinner party. The party, called the Julep, will be held on May 4 in Louisville to benefit the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville. Make no qualms about it, this is an event for those living high on the hog. At $500 a plate, Atkins will have the opportunity to help raise tens of thousands of dollars for the cancer center.
Christy Holbrook Gallegos was my friend. In fact, if you ever met Christy, you were her friend. Though I was a couple years older than her, we went to high school together at Trinity Heights Christian Academy in North Shreveport. She went on to become a flight nurse aboard Life Air Rescue and touched literally thousands of lives. Christy lost her battle with cancer recently and if the loss of her wasn't enough, her husband and children were left with a massive stack of medical bills.
Tyson Zimmer, a 7-year-old boy in Nebraska who is dying of brain cancer, is a huge Jason Aldean fan. The little boy with the sweet smile told Nebraska’s KOLN-TV, “I sing ‘Big Green Tractor’ because that’s my favorite.” As family and friends have watched Zimmer battle the horrible disease, they rallied around him, joining in a Twitter campaign to request that Aldean send the young boy a message.
