Despite ranking as one of the USA's best places to retire by Where To Retire magazine, a recent study by personal financial website WalletHub doesn't rank Shreveport quite as high, 148 to be exact.

WalletHub explains the purpose of their survey this way:

To help Americans plan an affordable retirement while maintaining the best quality of life, WalletHub compared the retiree-friendliness of more than 180 U.S. cities across 46 key metrics. Our data set ranges from cost of living to retired taxpayer-friendliness to availability of recreational activities. Read on for our findings, expert retirement advice and a full description of our methodology.

Listing key metrics like affordability, activies, quality of life and healthcare access, Shreveport came in with a total score of 43.74, finishing just behind markedly larger Indianapolis, Indiana and ahead of Tacoma, Washington. Shreveport score highest in the affordability category, but showed poorly in other categories, including access to healthcare (158), despite the city being home to the LSU Health School of Medicine.

Two other Louisiana cities fared better in the survey, with New Orleans coming in at 19 and Baton Rouge finishing in spot 66.

And what about the our countries best and worst spots to retire? Here's what WalletHub had to say:
