The Shreveport Police Department's Community Oriented Policing Bureau and area businesses are gearing up to help raise awareness of the tragic consequences of underage drinking and driving during prom and graduation season.

Tomorrow, April 15, at 12:45 p.m., law enforcement agencies, firefighters and members from the local medical community will gather at Southwood High School to stage a mock car crash. Officials hope students learn an important lesson -- to avoid impaired and distracted driving.

The crash will simulate a group of high school students who are heading to their senior prom, but because of the effects of impaired driving, they end up experiencing much more serious consequences.

Representatives from the local M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) chapter will be on-hand to share their own life-changing experiences with drunk drivers.

SPD thanks the following agencies for making this event possible: Louisiana State Police, Caddo Sheriff’s Office, Shreveport Fire Department, Life-Air Rscue, Caddo Parish Coroner's Office, Caddo Parish School Board, S and R Towing, Louisiana State Fair, SPAR, Good Samaritan Funeral Home, Jim Taliaferro (Caddo Crime Stoppers), Vanessa Braggs (M.A.A.D.) and Tony Martin (Strand Theater).
