A stranded man who was down on his luck is back home and several Shreveport Police Officers are being lauded as good Samaritans for their role in getting him there.

It started on Tuesday, August 30 when Shreveport Police responded to a welfare concern regarding an elderly man walking along a portion of I-20. 911 calls said that the man was nearly struck by several cars as he strolled between Hearne and Jewella Avenues. When SPD made contact with the 70-year-old man, he told them that he was trying to make his way back to Fort Worth, TX after being stranded in Shreveport with no food or money. The man was disoriented, dehydrated, and hungry.

A press release from Cpl. Marcus Hines, spokesman for the SPD, tells us what happened next.

After learning of the man’s plight, Shreveport Police Patrol Sergeant Laura Potts, spread the word to her assigned personnel, who graciously offered their assistance. At the end of officer’s collaborative efforts, the gentleman, emotionally moved, was safely aboard a charter bus with enough funds to purchase food during his return to his home town of Fort Worth.

A statement from the Shreveport Police Department:

It warms our hearts to be able to share events like this that directly impact the lives of others in a positive manner. The officers, who displayed their generosity in assisting the man in legitimate need, should feel a strong sense of accomplishment as the true aspect of “selfless service” became evident in their actions on today. We bid our visitor safe travels.

We salute all the officers who had a hand in getting the man returned home safely: Sergeant Laura Potts, Corporal Vincent Baurichter, Corporal Kimberly Broome, Corporal Bonnie Mikesell, Corporal Tyiesha Robinson and Corporal Brandon Davenport.
