A Shreveport man will serve a life prison sentence after being convicted of a September 2009 murder.

A Caddo District Court judge found 38-year-old Timothy C. Thomas guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Shannon Golston. He was shot several times while sitting outside the Southern Village Apartments on W. 70th Street.

According to a Caddo District Attorney's Office news release, Thomas was convicted hours after he waived a jury trial, just as jury selection was about to begin.

During the court proceedings, the Shreveport Police Crime Scene Unit, DA Investigator Rod Demery and North Louisiana Criminalistics Laboratory representative Carla White matched a firearm recovered from Champion Lake more than two years after the slaying to shell casings and bullets recovered at the crime scene.

Thomas will be sentenced during a hearing Thursday. He'll serve his time without the possibility of parole or reduction of sentence.
