Christmas Tree

It's a first for Shreveport. We now have a beautiful 50 foot Christmas tree lighting up the bank of the Red River in Riverview Park.

Crews spent a couple of days putting the giant tree together and Mayor Ollie Tyler flipped the switch Saturday night to the thrill of a crowd of about 3 thousand people. The Mayor tells me she wants this to be the first in a tradition of Christmas gatherings on our riverfront.

The park is about 90% complete after being completely rebuilt from the devastating flooding in March. A new permanent bathroom has been built on the site.  The stage is new with a high tech screen that can be seen by crowds across the park.

Mayor Tyler hopes to grow this event every year and she's even considering a Christmas Parade for next year. But she knows the number one priority is to make it a family friendly event that includes the star of the season, Santa Claus.
