Due to heavy rainfall and a rising Red River, much of Shreveport/Bossier is starting to flood. The Red is currently at 30.85 feet and is expected to crest Saturday at 31.5 feet, which is considered a moderate flood stage.

The reason for the flooding is record rainfall. As of Tuesday night, the area received a total of 9.21 inches of rain in February. This is the most rainfall ever seen in the Shreveport area. The previous record was set back in 1939.

The flooding and heavy has caused several local parks to close due to high water. According to Accuweather, things in Shreveport/Bossier will dry up Friday and Saturday but there is rain in the forecast for Sunday and Monday. In fact, weather experts say we can expect another half-inch to 1 inch of rainfall over the next few days

There is a flash flood watch in effect through this afternoon.
