Shreveport Bossier Weekend Events – August 10,11,12
This weekend will be full of back to school chaos for many families across Kiss Country. So as you wrap up your shopping and try to settle into your school year routines we have new movie recommendations and a couple events for you and the kids to check out. Be sure to add your event if you have anything going on this weekend! Be safe! Have fun! And take Kiss Country with you wherever you go this weekend!
Stars: Meryl Streep, Tommy Lee Jones, Steve Carell, Jean Smart
Summary: After thirty years of marriage, a middle-aged couple attends an intense, week-long counseling session to work on their relationship. ‘Hope Springs’ reminds us of ‘It’s Complicated‘ in a fun, realistic way. I loved Meryl Streep with Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, let’s see how she does with another one of my favorites: Tommy Lee Jones.
Also new in theaters this weekend:
The Bourne Legacy (Action! Action! Action!)
Stars: Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Scott Glenn
Summary: An expansion of the universe from Robert Ludlum’s novels, centered on a new hero whose stakes have been triggered by the events of the previous three films.
The Campaign (your “stupid funny” movie fix)
Stars: Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Sudeikis, Dylan McDermott
Summary: In order to gain influence over their North Carolina district, two CEOs seize an opportunity to oust long-term congressman Cam Brady by putting up a rival candidate. Their man: naive Marty Huggins, director of the local Tourism Center.
Sci-Port is celebrating all things London and Olympic with special programming!
The Sci-Port crew is hosting public programs each day at 1pm and 3pm including Science of Sports, Tea Time at Sci-Port, Hooping Around Physics, and Time Zones Around the World, and visit the Space Dome for a special Starry Night from London at 2:30 p.m. each day.
The fun finale of competitions and prizes is tomorrow, Saturday, August 11, from 1 – 5 p.m.
Here’s something interesting to do this weekend if you can spare the cash– Catch a breeze on the river as you catch a ride on The Spirit of the Red River cruise!

Cross Bayou and the Red River have become a habitat for several species of wildlife. The alligator, blue heron, white egret, kingfisher, sea gulls and various types of snakes and turtles, all dwell along the banks of these two bodies of water. This area has turned into a popular fishing area for bass, crappie, bream and catfish. Fried catfish is an area speciality.
Along this tour you will encounter several different bridges and even for some local people this piece of history is used and seen daily but the history behind them remains a mystery.
