Gary McCoy
Gary McCoy reeks of KISS Country…well, he really just reeks, but that’s another story.
It all started with his birth…it’s hard for things to look anything but bleak when the doctor who delivered him was a “flake”. Really! Delivered by old Dr. Flake in Shreveport, he spent most of his life in North Shreveport and Blanchard.
After forcing a number of teachers and principals at Trinity Heights Christian Academy into early retirement, the faculty finally “helped” him to LEAVE…uhh, “graduate”. Shortly after graduation he registered at LSUS.
Once he made the decision to go deer hunting in Alabama instead of taking his finals, he was immediately “un-registered” from LSUS. At that point he joined the Louisiana Army National Guard (at the urging of a local judge…but again a story for another day) After basic training in Fort Leonardwood Missouri, he moved to Mississippi and began his radio career in 1983.
In 1985 he returned to Shreveport as a radio personality and has earned nearly every award afforded the profession. He was the 1995 CMA “Radio Personality of the Year”, he’s been nominated by Billboard Magazine for the same award and for a number of other accolades. His radio stations have won the “Station of the Year” award by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters 8 different years. Currently, he’s the Program Director for KISS Country and co-hosts “The Gary and Julie” morning show on KISS Country.
Since 1999 he’s lived in Haughton with his wife Julie and sons, Buddy, Craig and Colt.
