Seattle Seahawks long snapper Nate Boyer isn't the most hyped rookie in the NFL this season, but he sure as heck is the grittiest.

Boyer, 34, an undrafted rookie free agent, had one of the more unusual routes to the NFL you'll ever hear. He served as a Green Beret and did several tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan during a five-year stint in the Army.

In 2010, at the age of 28, he enrolled at the University of Texas and even though he had never played football before, he first made the scout team and eventually worked his way up to the team as a long snapper, while continuing to deploy each summer as part of his military commitment.

Back in May, the Seahawks offered him a free agent deal and today he is with the team in training camp. It's one of the most compelling stories in the NFL and if guts and heart are keys to making it in the league, then he's definitely got what it takes to stick around for awhile.
