[UPDATE #2] Randy Travis' publicist has shot down reports that the singer had heart surgery, saying instead he received an impella device to assist the heart.

[UPDATE] According to a new report, Randy Travis has had heart surgery.

Teresa Traywick, the wife of Randy's brother Ricky, informed People of the update in the troubled country legend's condition.

"We have been told he has had surgery," said Traywick. "Our prayers are going out to him because my husband just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family."

Travis was admitted to a hospital in Texas over the weekend and diagnosed with viral cardiomyopathy.

[ORIGINAL STORY] The problems for country singer Randy Travis just never seem to end. According to his publicist, he's been admitted to a Texas hospital and is listed in critical condition.

The Grammy winner is suffering from complications of recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy. Viral cardiomyopathy is a heart condition caused by a viral infection in the heart. Travis was admitted into the medical facility yesterday.

Randy Travis legal issues of late have nearly overshadowed his illustrious recording career that includes award winning singles that he's best known for including "Three Wooden Crosses," "Forever and Ever, Amen," "Diggin' Up Bones," and "Deeper Than the Holler."
