It's a tight race between Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu and Republican Congresman Bill Cassidy. But a new poll shows that if Phil Robertson ran against Landrieu, he'd be the favorite.

Public Policy Polling, based in North Carolina, found that Senator Mary Landrieu has a one-point lead over her Republican challenger, Congressman Bill Cassidy. The same poll showed Landrieu with a 10-point advantage in August.

LSU political science professor Kirby Goidel told the Louisiana Radio Network he's not surprised. "We knew along this was going to be a highly competitive race," said Goidel. "Landrieu is of course running against Bill Cassidy primarily, but there are other candidates in the race as well. You are seeing a lot of outside money coming in and a lot of advertising already in opposition to her."

Goidel added that Landrieu needs to distance herself from President Barack Obama and his policies. Other polls like Rasmussen have said this senate race is a tight one.

However, the most interesting statistic to come out from the PPP poll is Phil Robertson's lead over Mary Landrieu. No, Robertson isn't running, but if he and Landrieu did face off, respondents said they'd vote for the Duck Dynasty patriarch by a margin of 46 percent to 42 percent.

"I think the best number in there is that Bill Cassidy is one point down and Phil Robertson is winning," said Goidel while chuckling.
