[UPDATE]  The mystery is solved. A young female found dead in Bossier Parish more than 30 years ago has been identified as 17-year-old Carol Ann Cole of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

"It's been a long 34 years, one month and five days of waiting for the Cole family, but I'm here to tell you the waiting's over and Carol Ann's coming home," said Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington during an afternoon news conference.

While Bossier investigators were working diligently to find out who this young lady was, her family in Michigan was trying to find out what happened to her.

On February 12, just six days after the Bossier Doe Facebook page was launched, a phone call came in that changed the entire investigation. Linda Ericson, a communications officer with the 911 call center in Bossier Parish, contacted detectives and told them she saw an ad posted on CraigsList that caught her attention.

The ad was created by the best friend of Carol Ann's sister, with a photo of Carol Ann and a write-up, hoping someone may have seen her. The similarity in the two pictures was uncanny.

"Detectives quickly determined that the timeline of Carol Ann's disappearance, her likeness to the recreated image of Bossier Doe, and the fact that she removed her own braces, made for a hopeful lead," Sheriff Whittington said.

Jeanie Phelps said she never gave up hope that her sister would be found.

"All I can think right now is, 'Wow, I've finally found Carol Ann.' Definitely not the way I wanted to find my sister," Phelps said. "There is a sense of relief, but also a deep sadness. The past couple of weeks while waiting for the DNA results seemed like forever compared to the last 35 years. I really want to express gratitude to everyone who put so much time into giving Bossier Doe an identity. So many have loved her without knowing who she was, and if you did know her, you would have loved her even more."

The focus now is...who killed her? Sgt. Dave Faulk with the CSI Unit said that will be the next phase in this long investigation.

"That's gonna be Chapter Two. Chapter Two begins now," Sgt. Faulk said. "But today, we're focused on the ending of Chapter One, and that's after 35 years, being able to put a name with an unknown homicide victim, and to be able to put family members who've been looking for a lost loved one back together."
