Each week, Gary and I are blessed to be able to reach out and recognize the best of the best in Kiss Country! People like 7-year-old Gaige Machen of Minden and his momma Sherri are the reason why living in our neck of the woods is so special.

Yeah, there's a lot of craziness in the world, but in Kiss Country, more often than not, we take care of each other. If we see a need, we fill a need, it's just as simple as that! And that's what Gaige did, despite having to have been terribly disappointed to have not made the team so many of his friends did, he proved that he was still vitally important to their success!

Here's what Gaige's momma, Sherri Machen, had to say about Gaige and his giving heart!

Our kids always seem to amaze us... and my 7 yr old is no exception. He didn't make baseball All Stars this year, but 8 of his really close friends and 4 others did… beginning as the Minden Continental 7/8 All-Stars, they are now Louisiana Dixie State Champs. I've watched Gaige cheer and root for his friends and never once has he shown an ounce of jealousy. He has been nothing but ecstatic for them and beaming with pride when "his boys" took the big title. Now as they prepare to head to the World Series inMyrtle Beach,SCon Aug 2-6, fundraising has hit full steam. Sweet boy overheard me talking about fundraisers that the boys are having to help foot the bill... this is what he said: "Mama I want to help!! Can we make some money for them?? We could bake something like a bake sale and sell it and give them the money!!" His heart is so big and he is beyond excited for his friends. So here's the deal... He (we) set out to sell chocolate pudding pies for a $10 minimum each. Over Facebook, within 4 short days, he had sold his maximum of 50 pies (that's $500 just in pie sales)! We begin tomorrow (Saturday) making the pies and delivering Sunday through Tuesday aroundMindenand other local areas. He has received multiple donations on top of the cost of pies and most people are giving much more than $10 per pie. (Looks like his total raised may hit $1000!) He is working hard and telling everyone that all the money is to help get his boys to the World Series, which by the way, we're going to cheer them on! I couldn't think of a better testimony to others than to do something for someone else without any expectations for anything in return. Gaige has a huge heart for such a young kid and I am VERY proud to say he's mine.

Gaige, it’s young men like you that make this an awesome place to live! Thank you for giving us hope for our future! And because you’ve been “Caught in the Act” the gang at Silver Star Steak House and Silver Star Smokehouse have a $100 Gift Certificate for you and the family to come have dinner on them!

Take a listen to the phone call we made to let Gaige know that he was this week’s Caught In The Act Award recipient!
