A Shreveport man is locked up this morning. He is accused of trying to run over a Shreveport police officer during a pursuit that began in Shreveport and ended in Bossier City.

20-year-old Stephon Perkins is charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated flight from an officer. Just before 1 a.m. Wednesday, Shreveport police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Perkins in Shreveport. Perkins refused to stop and led Shreveport officers on a pursuit into Bossier City when ended on Tulip Street when Perkins attempted to run over a Shreveport officer who was standing outside his patrol unit. The Shreveport officer subsequently fired multiple shots from his service weapon at Perkins. Perkins then crashed his vehicle into the officer’s patrol unit and fled on foot but was caught by Shreveport officers with the assistance of one of their K-9’s following a brief foot chase. The Shreveport officer was not hurt.

One of the rounds fired by the Shreveport officer struck Perkins in the elbow. He was taken to University Health in Shreveport for treatment of the gunshot wound and a dog bite. His injuries are not life threatening. A passenger in Perkins’ car – Breanna Lashaun Dinkins, 19, of Shreveport – was taken into custody and booked into the Bossier City Jail for having a warrant out of Caddo Parish for theft.
