LSU Health Shreveport has received a substantial gift that will help educate new doctors. The gift of $1.2 million comes from the Medical Center Clinics, Inc. and will be used to create an endowment to enhance its 29 resident and fellowship programs. The intent is to apply for Board of Regents’ matching funds to create an endowed chair in graduate medical education. It is the largest gift received by LSU Health Shreveport in support of residency training.

LSU Health Shreveport’s Chancellor Dr. G. E. Ghali is very excited about the gift and what it means for students at the medical school:

This generous gift will provide vital funding for our training programs now and into the future. The Medical Center Clinics are to be commended for their loyal support of our residents and fellows for many years. This permanent endowment will be a lasting legacy to the physicians who formed the group. We are immensely grateful to them and to the current board of directors for this visionary gift.

The Medical Center Clinics gift will enable the LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport to address graduate medical education needs, such as upgrading the skills simulation equipment, offering grand rounds for upper level residents and fellows along with enhanced access to scholarly activities such as travel to scientific conferences. Departments with residency programs will also be able to apply for funding for needs such as resident recruitment.
