In August 2012, a 5 year old boy in Longview, Washington suffered a nasty bite on his leg when a pit bull named Lexi attacked him.  The dog’s owner, 40 year old Kimberly Vasquez, argued that Lexi was provoked by neighborhood kids and that the dog was afraid and not aggressive.  Nonetheless, she was ordered by a judge to turn Lexi in to be put down.

According to Fox 12 Oregon, when the day came for Lexi to be turned over, Vasquez delivered an imposter dog.  No reports on where she found the “stand in” pit bull, but she even forged a rabies certificate for the dog.

That was apparently her undoing as Animal Control then checked the certificate and discovered that Kimberly had made a switch.

Vasquez was then hit with charges of her own including a dangerous dog attack and forgery, to which she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 90 days in jail.  She’s also being held in contempt of court for the dog switch, and could be facing more jail time.

She continues to argue that her son hid Lexi and that, "I honestly don't want to know where she is."
