Hunting season has begun here in Northwest Louisiana.  With the opening weekend of dove season in the books, it's now time to plant food plots and refurbish the old deer stand as bow season for deer in Area 2 of Louisiana is only 27 days away.

Game cameras will begin to fill our minds with winter dreams!  Hunters will soon head for the deer lease to scout for the perfect spot to perch and possibly see that monster whitetail!

With the 2016-17 deer season so close, we felt it would be useful to put some important deer season dates all together in one convenient reference place for you so be sure print this out for future reference.

Oh, and please note, these dates are ONLY for Area 2 (Northwest Louisiana).

  • October 1 - January 31 - Archery Season
  • October 8 - October 14 - Youth and Honorably Discharged Veterans Season
  • October 22 - October 28 AND January 16 - January 22 - Primitive Weapons Season
  • October 29 - December 7 - Still hunting ONLY (no dogs)
  • December 8 - January 15 - With or without dogs

Again this year, during the special Primitive Weapons Season, youths 17 or younger may hunt either sex deer with any legal weapon during the Primitive Firearms Season in each deer hunting area.   Read more about this special exemption at wlf.louisiana.gov

In regards to the Youth Deer Season, it is restricted to youths 17 or younger only and resident honorably discharged veterans.  Other restrictions apply and can be read at wlf.louisiana.gov

And please remember, all persons born on or after September 1, 1969, must successfully complete a Hunter Education Course in order to hunt in the state of Louisiana.
