NOLA reports that the Louisiana Department of Education on Saturday released their new physical education standards. The new standards call for 30 mins of physical education in addition to recess everyday and high school students are required to take 3 courses of physical education.

The standards put a focus on long term physical education and not just sports training. The purpose is to encourage a love for a healthy lifestyle and positive outlook on exercise.

Also it appears Dodgeball might be a thing of the past in Louisiana schools due to children getting hurt and the purpose of the physical education is to be active and not standing on the sidelines waiting to get back into the game. The New Standard according to NOLA states, "Human target games (e.g., dodgeball) and drills that promote aggressive behaviors by attacking and overpowering other humans are not (to) be permitted."
