Very soon, Downtown Shreveport will be home to a brand new hydroponic farm called Cotton Street Farms.  The indoor farm is slated to provide fresh veggies and greens, like spinach, kale, lettuce, herbs, and more, to Shreveport residents on demand.  The totally organic produce will be available for delivery in around an hour through the company's app.  That kind of freshness is unheard of, even at farmer's markets - but not for long, as the company also plans to sell their goods to the public at local farmer's markets.

Hydroponic farming utilizes nutrients delivered to plant roots via water in an intricate system of pipes, holding tanks, and pumps instead of using old-fashioned dirt.  The process not only eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides, but also dramatically increases the yield.

According to KSLA, Cotton Street Farms has already secured the building at 406 Cotton Street, but is still working on purchasing equipment and marketing.  No details on when the urban farm will open are available at this time.
