Apparently more and more people across the nation have seen enough benefits in homeschooling their children to begin the process.  Recent numbers from the National Home Education Research Institute show that homeschooling is on the rise across the entire country, and apparently, Louisiana is a part of that trend as well.

Those families who've opted for homeschooling cite several reasons for making the switch including tailored curriculum, a difference in values, and the removal of kids from the possibility of being involved in school violence.

Christopher Chin, president of Homeschool Louisiana, says, "“The specific number of registered homeschoolers are 30,147 students in our state. If homeschoolers were their own school district, they would be the sixth largest in our state.”

Chin explains that those parents whose main concerns are with school violence, are not exclusively concerned with school shootings at public schools. “There is a lot of regulation there, there is a lot of security, and still you have the bullying, the sexual misconduct, the sexual abuse, and then, of course, you have unfortunately physical assaults.”

He also goes on to say that homeschooling may not suit all family's needs, but that the educational option is something that more and more parents are looking into.  "If parents thoughtfully looked at it and saw the resources today many parents would take the leap.”
