I'm guilty as are a lot of us this time of year!  We're taking our football way too seriously! Especially high school football.

I mean, the District 1 titles are on the line. Who's going to the State Tournament? Who's getting a scholarship? All important but it's nice to be reminded that it's not worth losing your humanity over.

A couple weeks back, two high school football teams faced off near Jackson, Mississippi: The Northwest Rankin Cougars, and the Brandon Bulldogs. And by the second quarter, the Bulldogs were up 21-nothing, and the Cougars' only quarterback was hurt.

The coach of the Cougars tried putting other players in at quarterback, but they were really bad. So the coach of the Bulldogs, Brad Peterson, got an idea.

In an effort to "make it fair," he offered to use his back-up quarterback for the second half, and let the Cougars use his starting quarterback; a young man named Mason Mathieu.

The other coach agreed, but joked with Mason that he better play hard for them . . . which he DID. In the second half, Mason threw two touchdown passes, and was about to get a third when time ran out.

The Cougars still got beaten 46-14. But it was certainly the thought that counted!

After the game, Mason told the local news that he had a lot of fun playing with "a great group of guys."

Awesome to see some people won't put "the game" above "their neighbors."
