"Major" is a service dog who's now in the running for the 2014 American Human Association "Hero Dog Awards." And what a story, Major's owner, Terrance McGlade of Zanesville, Ohio, has to tell.

Terrance served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan as a Marine until he was injured several years ago by a roadside bomb which ended his service. Since then Terrance has suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which has brought on violent seizures.

Because of his condition, Terrance got Major, who's trained to sense when Terrance is in trouble, but Major never received the kind of training needed to do what made him a hero.

Not long ago, Terrance began having a serious seizure making it unable for him to call for help. Apparently though, Major sensed the severity of the situation and while Terrance was on the ground, Major began feverishly pawing at the pocket  Terrance had his cell phone in.

Eventually he managed to get the phone out. And luckily Terrance had it set up to call 911 with a push of a button.  Because Major started chewing and stepping on it, the phone made repeated calls to 911.

Then he ran outside, sat on the curb, and waited for the ambulance. And when it got there, he led them straight to Terrance.

Terrance says he's not sure what would have happened if Major hadn't called for help. And because he saved his life, he's entered him for one of the "Hero Dog Awards".
