Before you know it, the leaves will be falling from the trees and the temps will get a little cooler and it will be time for fall.

That's one of the best times in Louisiana because we have some of the best festivals in the world.

It kicks off with the Natchitoches Meat Pie Festival in Natchitoches this weekend. You will find great music, food and fun for the entire family along the bank of the Cane River in Natchitoches.

If you'd like to make a little road trip to take in a legendary festival, check out the Annual Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival in New Iberia which is coming up September 27-30th. I don't think you can get more cajun that being from New Iberia. These are great folks.

If your appetite is a little daring, you could venture to Luling for the annual Alligator Festival which is coming up September 27-30th. You can be sure to find alligator on a stick and gator dishes in all kinds of varieties.

But for one of the best festivals in the south, you need not travel at all. The Annual Red River Revel Arts Festival is coming up September 29 - October 7th in Shreveport at Festival Plaza. Artists from across the nation converge on our community for this big event.

Here are some of my other favorite festivals across Louisiana:

Louisiana Cotton Festival Ville Platte, October 9-14th

Annual Zwolle Tamale Fiesta Zwolle, October 12-13th. You have to try the tamales. I found some great ones and I actually found some that were a little too bland or dry. But the music and entertainment was a blast.

World Championship Gumbo Cook-off New Iberia, October 13-14th. Shreveport has Gumbeaux Gladiators in the spring, but the Granddaddy of all Gumbo festivals is in New Iberia. Expect to find all kinds of varieties of gumbo.

International Rice Festival Crowley, October 18-21st

Andouille Festival LaPlace, October 19-20th. This one is on my bucket list. I've never been to the Andouille Fest, but will be doing this one soon. I've heard some great stories about how cajun this festival is. Looking forward to making this trip.

State Fair of Louisiana Shreveport October 25 - November 11. This is a no brainer. Our State Fair attracts visitors from across the state and it will give our local economy a big boost.

French Food Festival Larose October 26-28

Louisiana Pecan Festival Colfax November 2-4. This is one of the events I really want to check out. I'm a lover of anything with pecans in it. Folks tell me you can get the best pecan pie at this festival.

Louisiana Swine Festival Basile November 2-4

Our state is so full of culture and good times, not to mention great food which you can find at all of these festivals.
