There is nothing more frustrating that being stuck in traffic. It's pretty bad when it's just around town. It's even worse when you are trying to get to a vacation destination. It's almost like the storm before the calm when traffic at a standstill raises your blood pressure while you're doing your best to get away to relax.

Thankfully there is technology that is available to you at your fingertips via your overly intelligent telephone calling device. This technology works in real time and is perfect for Louisiana drivers.

I can vouch for these apps personally. I have them loaded on my phone. I have saved a vacation's worth of time by firing them up before I get in the car on a long trip. If you're open to some suggestions here are some of my favorite apps for maintaining forward momentum.

Way To Geaux: This app was created by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. It automatically finds your position on the roadway, assuming you give it permission to do so. It then warns you in real time of traffic issues. Those issues might be road construction or crashes. It can also surprise the ever living heck out of you because it talks. If you want to get the Way To Geaux App it's free to download in the App Store for Apple Devices and Google Play for Android and Windows phones.

Waze: This App is actually nationwide but you can dial it to your location based on your roadway position. This app is free to download from the App Store and Google Play. It gets its information on road conditions from other motorist who have downloaded the app. If you remember the CB craze of the 1970's you'll love Waze. It not only gives you real time traffic information on tie ups and slow downs. It can show you in real time the location of speed traps along the roadway.  You can even use it to plot detour routes to get around those tie ups.

Whether you're just driving to the grocery store or trying to get around the God forsaken tunnel traffic in Mobile Alabama on the way to Florida, these apps could certainly help you out.
