Chesapeake Energy Corporation has awarded the final Caddo and Bossier Parish students in the Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders program. Chesapeake recognized outstanding youth from local communities and donated a total of $16,000 in needed equipment and supplies to local schools throughout the program.

Chesapeake’s Discovering Tomorrow’s Leaders program awarded its eighth set of winners in Caddo and Bossier parishes, and as a result, Chesapeake donated a total of $3,000 in needed equipment and supplies to the schools of Cayleigh Phipps, Jessica Thigpen and Kylie Moore, in their honor. The winners will each be eligible to win a personal laptop computer at a banquet this month.

Cayleigh was recognized on Wednesday morning during her math class at Cope Middle School where Katie McCullin, Chesapeake’s Manager – Media Relations & Corporate Development, spotlighted her accomplishments and announced the $1,000 in equipment and supplies the school would be receiving.

 

Cayleigh is a member of FCA, Junior BETA Club and is on the Honor Roll. Cayleigh is a member of the Simple Church, student leader for Hands and Feet and helps set up the middle school area for church. She helped pull weeds and pick up trash around Bossier Elementary and the surrounding neighborhood. She also serves as the resident “street mom” to the elementary boys in the neighborhood by keeping a close eye on them. Cayleigh volunteered as a Jr. Diplomat for the Bossier Chamber of Commerce.

Jessica was suprised during her first period class at Calvary Baptist Academy where Sarie Joubert, Chesapeake’s Manager – Public Affairs, presented the award to her and announced the donation of two iPads.

Jessica is the Secretary for BETA club, on the yearbook staff, a member of the National Honor Society as well as the National Society of High School Scholars. She volunteers at GREAT(Great Results Equine Assisted Therapy) in Greenwood, where she assists with lessons, feeds and grooms horses and cleans horse stalls. Jessica is on the Golf Team and recently placed third at regionals and will be attending the state tournament.

Kylie was surprised during her biology class at Benton High School where Jennifer Voisin, Chesapeake’s Manager – Corporate Development, presented the award to her and announced the donation of two iPads.

Kylie is an officer for FCA and InterAct Club. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and SADD. She attends Cypress Baptist Church, where she is a part of the youth group and was recently selected to attend the LA Youth Leadership Program. Kylie also plays softball for Benton High School.

 

Cayleigh, Jessica and Kylie were selected from more than 299 nominations and judged by the Alliance for Education on qualities of leadership, character, volunteerism and a sense of community.

 

All weekly winners will be honored at a final awards banquet on April 24. Winners, parents and principals will come together to spotlight the deserving students one last time, and the students will participate in a drawing from which four students will receive a free laptop computer.
